Cha-am District Promotes Bat Watching at Na Yang Bat Cave

Date:

On December 3, 2024, Cha-am District Chief Kaew Kongwong led a group of Thai and international tourists to witness the evening flight of bats from the Na Yang Bat Cave in Phetchaburi Province. Located in Na Yang Subdistrict on the property of Mr. Uthai Chaengsuwan, this limestone mountain site hosts an estimated 2 to 4 million “rat bats.”

At 6:10 p.m., visitors observed the bats emerging in a wave-like formation, heading north to feed on insects in mangrove forests near Ban Laem and Bang Khun Sai. The natural phenomenon, lasting around 15 minutes, has made the cave a popular destination for both local and foreign tourists.

District Chief Kaew emphasized the ecological significance of the cave, calling it a unique resource in Phetchaburi Province. Efforts are underway, in collaboration with local leaders and the park committee, to develop the site as a sustainable tourist attraction while preserving its natural environment.

Mr. Uthai, the property owner, noted that Na Yang Bat Cave has been open to visitors for over two decades, consistently attracting interest. The community actively manages the site, including the collection and sale of bat guano for 80–100 baht per bucket, generating income for local development.

Tourists can access the site by driving along Phetkasem Road to Nong Phao Than Intersection and following signs for 2.5 kilometers. The best viewing times are between 5:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. daily.
