Hotel Bookings in Thailand Surge 87% for Christmas Season

Date:

Thailand is experiencing a notable surge in hotel bookings during the Christmas period, with foreign tourist reservations reaching 87% this December, according to data released on December 18, 2024, by SiteMinder, a global hotel revenue management platform. The period from December 21 to 25 has seen an 18% increase in bookings compared to the previous year, underscoring the country’s appeal as a preferred destination during the festive season.

The growth is also reflected in other key metrics. The average daily rate (ADR) for hotels in Thailand rose by 16%, climbing from THB 7,149 to THB 8,313, surpassing global averages. Tourists are also extending their stays, with the average length of stay increasing by 5% to 2.76 days. Additionally, the advance booking period has lengthened by 10%, with most travelers now booking an average of 93 days in advance.

While Thailand is predominantly Buddhist, the celebratory nature of Christmas is a compelling draw for international visitors. Warm weather, vibrant cultural experiences, and friendly locals are key factors contributing to the country’s popularity. Among the most sought-after destinations are Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket, which remain prime choices for Christmas celebrations and significant revenue drivers for local hotel operators.

Officials, including Deputy Government Spokesperson Ms. Sasikarn Wattanachan, have highlighted the opportunity this period presents for the hospitality industry. The report illustrates how Thailand’s unique blend of attractions continues to position it as a leading global destination for holiday travelers.
