Minimum Wage in Thailand Set to Rise on January 1

Date:

The tri-partite Wage Committee has approved a nationwide increase in Thailand’s minimum wage, ranging from 7 to 55 baht per day, effective January 1. The highest daily wage of 400 baht will apply to workers in Phuket, Chachoengsao, Chon Buri, and Ko Samui district of Surat Thani.

Adjustments vary across regions, with Mueang district in Chiang Mai and Hat Yai district in Songkhla rising to 380 baht, while Bangkok and six neighboring provinces will see rates increase to 372 baht. In the remaining 67 provinces, wages will rise by an average of 2%, with rates determined by provincial wage committees.

Boonsong Thapchaiyuth, permanent secretary of Labour, explained that the Wage Committee considered cost of living, social conditions, and employer capacity in setting the new rates. Recommendations from provincial sub-committees also played a role in finalizing the adjustments.
