American Charged After Fatal Dirt Bike Collision in Chiang Mai

CHIANG MAI — A 58-year-old woman tragically lost her life after being struck by a dirt bike ridden by an American tourist in Mae On district, Chiang Mai, on January 2, 2025. The incident occurred on Road 1317 in front of Mae On Flower Garden, where police and emergency responders rushed to the scene.

The victim, identified as Mrs. Kia Sae-wang from Chang Phueak district, was crossing the road to get dinner when the accident took place. Despite emergency responders performing CPR and transporting her to Mae On Hospital, she succumbed to her injuries shortly after arrival.

Philip, a 37-year-old American national, was riding a dirt bike alongside a friend on another motorcycle when the collision happened. Witnesses reported that Philip knelt in remorse before Mrs. Kia’s family at the scene and later at the police station after learning of her death. In a moment of profound grief, he prostrated himself to apologize, and the family responded with understanding despite their loss.

Authorities have stated that Philip will face charges of reckless driving causing death. Investigations into the circumstances of the accident are ongoing.
