Thailand Eyes Bangkok’s Chatuchak District for 2027 Formula 1 Event
Thailand is exploring the possibility of hosting a Formula 1 race in 2027, with Bangkok’s Chatuchak district emerging as the leading candidate for the event. The proposed race would take place along a 6-kilometer route on Vibhavadi Rangsit Road, passing through three parks in the area, according to Kongsak Yodmanee, governor of the Sports Authority of Thailand (SAT).
Discussions were held last week to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed route, addressing logistical challenges and coordination with multiple agencies overseeing the area. The event is part of a broader government initiative to boost tourism and establish Thailand as a premier global destination for international events.

The working committee responsible for the proposal has shortlisted five potential locations across the country. In addition to the Chatuchak area, other options include U-Tapao Airport and Eastern Aviation City in Rayong, Ratchadamnoen Avenue in central Bangkok, the vicinity of Bangkok Hua Lamphong Railway Station, and Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi. After reviewing the options, the committee determined that Chatuchak offers the most suitable setting for the prestigious motorsport event.
The next step involves submitting the proposed location to the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), the governing body for Formula 1, which will assess the site’s feasibility. If approved, Thailand plans to formally bid for the event, with a decision expected by January 2025. Hosting the race is projected to attract approximately 300,000 tourists and generate an estimated 12 billion baht in revenue.
Officials and stakeholders, including representatives from state agencies, emphasized the importance of careful planning to ensure the success of this potential megaproject.
