Canadian Tourist Arrested After Phuket Police Chase

Date:

PHUKET — A Canadian tourist was apprehended following a high-speed police chase through Patong and Karon districts on January 19, which left multiple vehicles damaged and raised concerns over public safety.

The incident began around 4:45 PM when Patong Police responded to reports of a disturbance near the Patong Condotel Hotel. Upon their arrival, the suspect fled the scene in a black Ford pickup truck, driving recklessly toward Karon district and causing several collisions along the way.

Patong Police patrol units initiated a pursuit and requested reinforcements from Karon Police Station. Roadblocks were set up, and the vehicle was intercepted near Big C Wat Karon on Patak Road at approximately 5:10 PM.

The driver was identified as Mr. Samuel, 34, a Canadian national traveling with another Canadian citizen, Mr. Jared, also 34. Mr. Samuel claimed he was fleeing from attackers following an altercation in Patong and was attempting to reach a hospital for treatment.

The driver, who sustained injuries during the incident, was transported to Patong Hospital, while his passenger was detained for questioning. Police have seized the damaged vehicle and impounded other affected cars as part of their investigation.

Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage to establish the full sequence of events. The damaged pickup truck is undergoing inspection at Karon Police Station to determine if it contains any illegal items.

The incident has highlighted the need for stricter measures to prevent such disturbances, which disrupt public order and endanger lives.
