Starting February 3, 2025, traffic on Rama 2 Road (Highway 35) will be adjusted due to the ongoing construction of the M82 motorway, which connects Bangkok to Hua Hin and other southern regions. The Department of Highways (DOH) has announced that the main lanes between Mahachai New Town and Ban Phaew intersections in Samut Sakhon province will be closed each night from 7:00 PM to 5:30 AM, an hour earlier than previously scheduled. However, travelers can still use the parallel road lanes in both directions.

The M82 motorway is a significant infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and reducing travel time between Bangkok and Hua Hin, a popular tourist destination about 200 kilometers south of the capital. With the construction expected to last several months, travelers heading to Hua Hin may face delays during the nighttime road closures.
To help ease the disruption, the DOH has provided alternative routes for those traveling to Hua Hin. Motorists are advised to use Petchkasem Road (Highway 4), the main highway connecting Bangkok to the coastal town, as well as Borommaratchachonnani Road, which passes through Nakhon Pathom and Ratchaburi provinces. These detours will ensure smoother travel for those heading south.
For those traveling to nearby destinations like Samut Sakhon, alternative roads such as the Ekachai-Bang Bon route or the Ban Phaew-Prapathone road will be available. The Department of Highways urges all road users to plan their trips in advance, check for the best routes, and allow extra time to avoid delays.
The DOH also expressed apologies for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciates the public’s cooperation. For further information, drivers can contact the DOH hotline at 1586 or the M82 project team at 06-3192-1586.
