Thailand’s Path to Economic Growth and Sustainability

Date:

Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra has outlined Thailand’s strategic priorities, positioning the country as a key player in food production, cultural tourism, and emerging industries. Speaking at the “Go Thailand 2025: Women Run the World” event in Bangkok, she emphasized the need for investment in agriculture, sustainable energy, and technological advancements to drive economic growth and global competitiveness.

Paetongtarn highlighted Thailand’s rich cultural heritage as a major driver for tourism and economic expansion. The government aims to promote year-round festivals, develop wellness tourism, and extend visitor attractions beyond major cities. Infrastructure development and policy measures are being designed to enhance service industries and boost tourism spending, creating broader economic opportunities at the local level.

Beyond tourism, Thailand is intensifying efforts to strengthen its role in high-tech and sustainable industries. Investment plans include expanding semiconductor production, establishing data centers, and advancing renewable energy projects. Education reforms and scholarship initiatives, such as the One District, One Scholarship (ODOS) program, will be expanded to equip young people with the skills required for these emerging sectors. These measures align with the nation’s target of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and reinforcing its contribution to the global green economy.

Addressing gender equality, Paetongtarn pointed to Thailand’s strong representation of women in business leadership while calling for greater female participation in government. She emphasized that leadership ability should be recognized irrespective of gender or identity.

Drawing from her personal experience as a female leader and mother, the prime minister encouraged young women to embrace leadership roles and have confidence in their abilities. She stressed that with the right opportunities, Thailand’s people could shape the country’s future and enhance its global standing.
