Government Expands Affordable Housing Project in Four Key Areas

Date:

BANGKOK – The government is pushing ahead with its “Homes for Thais” initiative, approving four locations for new residential developments aimed at increasing access to affordable housing. As part of the project, 140,000 applicants have been pre-approved for home loans through the Government Housing Bank (GHB).

The State Railway of Thailand (SRT) Board has approved the leasing of state-owned land for the project, with selected sites located near Central Ladprao Shopping Mall, Thonburi (Siriraj), Chiang Rak in Pathum Thani, and Chiang Mai Train Station. These locations were chosen for their proximity to transportation networks, educational institutions, and essential services, ensuring convenience for future residents.

The Ministry of Transport is set to present an update on the project to the Cabinet in mid-March, outlining initial registration figures and potential future expansions.

By utilizing government-owned land, the initiative aims to reduce housing inequality and promote sustainable urban development. The planned communities will feature necessary infrastructure to support long-term economic and social stability.

The project has received backing from key government agencies, with officials emphasizing its role in improving access to homeownership for Thai citizens.
