The Thai Cabinet has approved a budget of 2.83 billion baht from the Fiscal Year 2025 Emergency Reserve Fund to support student loans, ensuring continued access to education. The funding, proposed by the Ministry of Finance, will be distributed through the Student Loan Fund to cover tuition fees and living expenses for students in the first semester of the 2025 academic year, set to begin next month.
The government has also directed the Student Loan Fund to improve loan repayment collection efforts to maintain long-term financial sustainability. The policy aligns with existing legal and regulatory frameworks and follows previous Cabinet resolutions on education financing.
As the approved budget surpasses 100 million baht, the decision was made in accordance with standard budgetary procedures. The process included consultations with the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation, the Ministry of Education, and the National Economic and Social Development Council.
Deputy Government Spokesperson Sasikarn Wattanachun announced the approval, emphasizing the importance of ensuring financial accessibility for students while maintaining fiscal responsibility.
