Newborn Rescued After Being Abandoned in Nakhon Ratchasima Grassland

Date:

A newborn baby boy has been rescued after being found abandoned in a densely vegetated area near the Mun River in Chok Chai district, Nakhon Ratchasima province, early on the morning of April 20, 2025. The infant was discovered lying face-down, unclothed and still attached to his umbilical cord. Medical personnel have since confirmed he is in stable condition.

The discovery occurred in a remote field near a bridge separating Moo 1 Ban Rai and Moo 3 Ban Tha Ang villages in the Tha Ang subdistrict. The area, around 300 metres from the main road, was overgrown with grass and bushes reaching more than two metres in height.

According to Mr. Rewin, the local village headman, a resident reported hearing unusual crying sounds at around 06:00. Upon investigating, they found the infant partially visible in the grass. Emergency responders were immediately contacted, and the baby was transported to Chok Chai Hospital, where he was determined to weigh 3.4 kilograms and be in good health.

The baby’s position suggested he had been discarded without care, as there were no signs of a cloth covering or any deliberate placement. Blood was still visible on his body, indicating the birth had occurred just hours before.

The man who found the infant, Mr. Naphat, 42, said he had been checking his eel traps nearby when he heard what he initially thought was the sound of a bird. Upon closer listening, he realized it was a baby’s cry. He followed the noise and found the newborn lying alone in the tall grass.

Chok Chai police have opened an investigation, reviewing CCTV footage from nearby roads to trace those responsible for the abandonment. Authorities are focusing efforts on identifying the baby’s mother and any individuals who may be connected to the incident.
