Thailand Ranked Among World’s Happiest Countries in 2025 Global Index

Date:

Thailand has secured the 7th spot in the 2025 Global Happiness Index, reflecting a strong sense of well-being among its population, according to a survey released by international research firm IPSOS. The results are based on data collected from over 23,000 individuals across 30 countries, with the survey period spanning from December 20, 2024, to January 3, 2025.

The survey, which included respondents under the age of 75, found that only 2% of Thai participants described themselves as “not happy at all.” This suggests a high overall life satisfaction among the Thai population. In the broader Asia region, Thailand was ranked third happiest among seven countries, trailing India and Indonesia, and placing ahead of Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, and South Korea.

Among Thai respondents, 18% reported being “very happy” and 61% said they were “somewhat happy.” In contrast, 19% described themselves as “unhappy,” while only a small minority expressed complete dissatisfaction. Malaysia was reported to be on par with Thailand in terms of its overall happiness rating.

According to IPSOS, the top contributors to happiness were time spent with family, feelings of love and acceptance, and a sense of autonomy in life decisions. On the other hand, financial instability, mental health difficulties, and physical health problems were cited as key factors leading to unhappiness. The data also highlighted generational and gender differences: those aged 70 and above were found to be the most content, and among Gen Z participants, men reported higher levels of happiness than women.

The Thai government has stated that it continues to prioritize initiatives aimed at enhancing citizens’ quality of life. Key policy areas include improvements in healthcare, income security, and support for family cohesion. Particular focus is being placed on the well-being of working-age individuals and the elderly population.

The announcement of the ranking was made public by Deputy Government Spokesperson Anukool Pruksanusak.
