A veterinary team was dispatched to Kui Buri National Park in Prachuap Khiri Khan province on 6 May 2025 to provide urgent medical assistance to an injured wild elephant spotted near a local reservoir. The animal was reported to be limping, with a visibly swollen left hind leg, prompting concern among park officials and wildlife conservationists.
The elephant, first seen in Village 12 of Ao Noi sub-district, had initially evaded the search efforts of rangers and veterinarians. When on-ground tracking proved unsuccessful, the team deployed a drone to locate the animal within the dense jungle terrain of the national park. Aerial surveillance enabled officials to identify the elephant’s position, allowing veterinarians to plan for direct intervention.
Authorities stated that two treatment options are under consideration. The team may use a dart gun to administer antibiotics remotely, or, if conditions permit, they could sedate the elephant to carry out a more thorough examination and treatment.
Kui Buri National Park is known for its elephant population and ongoing wildlife conservation programs. Officials from the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation are overseeing the rescue efforts alongside local park staff and veterinary specialists.
