Entertainment complex planned in Bangkok Port redevelopment

Date:

A section of Bangkok Port is set for a major commercial redevelopment that will include an entertainment complex, as part of a broader initiative to modernise the area, Deputy Transport Minister Manaporn Charoensri announced on Wednesday, 7 May 2025. The project will cover approximately 520 rai of the total 2,353-rai port area in the Klong Toey district.

According to the minister, the redevelopment will not only feature the entertainment complex but also a cruise terminal, retail spaces, office buildings, residential units, shopping malls and hotels. The initiative aims to revitalise this section of Bangkok Port through a public-private partnership model. A budget of 20 million baht has been allocated for a year-long feasibility study to guide the project’s development. At present, plans do not include a casino; this aspect remains contingent upon potential legal changes regarding gambling in Thailand.

Ms Manaporn emphasised that the project’s first phase will not interfere with the daily operations of the port or impact surrounding communities. The Port Authority of Thailand had initially proposed, in 2019, the commercial redevelopment of the entire 2,353-rai port area.

Approximately 15,000 households across 27 communities are currently situated within the port compound. Officials, including Ms Manaporn, have indicated that the development process will consider the interests of these local residents.
