Drunk motorcyclist dies in crash near Pattaya

Date:

A Thai construction worker died on the evening of May 12 in a high-speed motorcycle collision in Chon Buri province, near Pattaya, after reportedly leaving to purchase more alcohol following a drinking session. The crash occurred around 7:36 p.m. on a sharp curve in Bang Lamung district’s Pong sub-district.

The victim, identified as 29-year-old Somrak Mabudda, was riding an unregistered Honda CBR when he lost control on the notorious Huay Yai Muk bend along Pong Road. He collided head-on with a white Toyota pickup truck. The impact destroyed the motorcycle and caused significant damage to the truck. The driver of the pickup reportedly avoided serious injury.

Emergency personnel from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Rescue Unit and officers from Nong Prue Police Station responded to the scene. Somrak was pronounced dead on site. His body was later transported to Pattaya Pattamakun Hospital to await collection by family members for religious rites.

Initial witness accounts suggest that Somrak was travelling at high speed and failed to navigate the bend, resulting in the crash. A friend of the deceased told police that the group had been drinking earlier that evening, and Somrak had gone out to buy more alcohol before the accident occurred.

Police are examining CCTV footage and collecting further evidence to determine the exact cause of the incident. Locals have noted that the stretch of road where the crash took place is frequently the site of accidents, particularly those involving speeding and alcohol.

Lieutenant Colonel Chanoknan Tuancom, Deputy Inspector at Nong Prue Police Station, was among the officials at the scene.
