Russian tourist assaulted in Pattaya suspect claims provocation

Date:

On the night of June 9, 2025, a 54-year-old Russian national, Mr. Viacheslav Gurov, filed a complaint at the Pattaya City Police Station, alleging that he had been assaulted and robbed by an unidentified assailant while walking near Dong Tan Beach in Pattaya. The incident occurred just before midnight and led to a police investigation that resulted in the arrest of two Thai nationals, one of whom confessed to the attack.

According to police officials, a joint operation between Pattaya City Police and the Tourist Police Bureau led to the arrest of Mr. Paisarn, also known as “Kai,” aged 40, and Mr. Kitti, also known as “Wutthi,” aged 38. The arrests took place at an abandoned building near the entrance of Soi Chaiyaphruek 2 in Banglamung District, Chon Buri Province. Authorities discovered 44 methamphetamine pills and two packets of crystal methamphetamine in their possession.

During interrogation, Mr. Paisarn admitted to assaulting the tourist. He claimed the confrontation was triggered by what he described as inappropriate behavior by Mr. Gurov toward his 2-year-old daughter, who was left momentarily unattended in a tricycle while he went into the nearby forest. According to his statement, upon returning, he allegedly witnessed Mr. Gurov touching the child inappropriately. In response, Mr. Paisarn said he struck Mr. Gurov with a stick out of anger and took his ring and bag before fleeing the scene. He asserted that the bag contained no valuables.

Authorities were able to identify the suspects using nearby surveillance footage. The search led them to the abandoned building where both suspects were apprehended. A further search yielded narcotics, with each suspect reportedly in possession of a portion of the drugs found at the scene.

Initial checks revealed that Mr. Paisarn had a prior criminal record, including six previous arrests—four related to narcotics and two for theft. Both suspects were taken into custody for questioning at Pattaya City Police Station and now face charges related to drug possession and, in Mr. Paisarn’s case, aggravated assault and theft.

The investigation was led by Pol. Col. Anek Sathongyu, Superintendent of Pattaya City Police Station, along with Pol. Lt. Col. Tolap Tinamat, Senior Inspector from Tourist Police Division 2. Authorities have stated that legal proceedings will continue as evidence is reviewed and further witness testimonies are collected.

Police have not confirmed the assault allegations made by Mr. Paisarn and are continuing to investigate all aspects of the case.
