Nakhon Si Thammarat Unveils Enhanced Coastal Route for Tourists

On June 12, 2025, the Department of Rural Roads (DRR) officially announced the completion of significant upgrades to the coastal road connecting Khonon and Sichon in Nakhon Si Thammarat province. This initiative aims to bolster tourism in southern Thailand by offering travelers a scenic and accessible route along the Gulf of Thailand coastline, complete with opportunities to experience local natural wonders and capture memorable moments.

The DRR has underscored the importance of developing and elevating transportation infrastructure across all regions to facilitate swift, safe, and convenient travel for the public. A key aspect of this strategy involves transforming rural roads into conduits for tourism, thereby stimulating local economies and promoting Thailand as a premier global travel destination. The southern coast, known for its distinctive natural beauty, remains a significant draw for both domestic and international visitors. Recognizing this, the DRR has meticulously improved the Nakhon Si Thammarat 4073 road, which runs along the Khonon – Sichon coastline. This route has garnered recognition as one of the most picturesque roads on the Gulf of Thailand, and the recent enhancements are set to establish it as a prominent new landmark within the province.

The comprehensive upgrade of the Khonon – Sichon coastal road, specifically along Nakhon Si Thammarat 4073 from Highway 4014 to Nai Plao Beach, spans a total distance of 6.169 kilometers. The project involved widening the road surface to 6.00 meters, with shoulders now measuring 1.00 to 1.50 meters on each side. Additionally, concrete barriers and curbs along both sides have been improved, and new traffic signs have been installed to enhance safety for travelers. The total budget allocated for these improvements was 29.978 million Thai Baht. The route is now fully accessible and ready to welcome visitors. Travelers are encouraged to enjoy the winding coastal road, which offers a harmonious blend of lush green mountains, pristine white-sand beaches, and clear blue waters. Numerous viewpoints are dotted along the route, notably the Phlai Chamroen Viewpoint, also known as Phlai Dam Viewpoint. This spot provides an ideal setting for visitors to pause, appreciate the elevated sea views at sunrise or sunset, and capture impressive photographs. Lucky visitors might even witness the playful antics of pink dolphins, frequently observed in these waters, as this area is renowned as one of the best locations in Thailand for spotting these unique marine mammals. Beyond the road itself and the coastal scenery, the area boasts a wealth of other attractions, including Thong Yee Bay, Thong Yang Bay, Khao Phlai Dam, Samet Chun Waterfall, and Hin Lat Nai Plao Waterfall.

The DRR urges all motorists to exercise caution while driving, observe warning signs, follow directional signage, and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to ensure a safe and smooth journey to their destinations. For further information, inquiries can be directed to the Nakhon Si Thammarat Rural Highway Office at 0 7584 5002, or by calling the DRR hotline at 1146.
