A heart-wrenching scene in Chachoengsao Province, eastern Thailand, has drawn attention after a woman discovered a baby monkey clinging to its deceased mother along a roadside near a palm plantation.
The incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, June 25, in Village 7 of Ban Ang Suea Dam in Tha Takiab Subdistrict and District. Ganda, the woman who encountered the scene, shared a photograph of the visibly distressed infant monkey refusing to let go of its mother’s lifeless body. She reported the sight to local wildlife conservation authorities, expressing that it moved her to tears.
Wildlife officials suspect the mother monkey was fatally struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the road with her young. The infant, estimated to be around two months old, was transported to Wildlife Rescue Center No. 2 in Krabokkhoo, Khlong Takrao Subdistrict. The center, operated under the Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation, will provide specialized care and follow established rehabilitation protocols to ensure the animal’s recovery and possible reintegration into the wild.
Authorities remind the public to exercise caution while driving through areas inhabited by wildlife and to report injured or distressed animals to local rescue teams. The case underscores the growing challenges wild animals face due to human encroachment and traffic-related hazards.
