Austrian Tourist Dies After Fall at Koh Samui Hotel

Date:

A 45-year-old Austrian man died in the early hours of July 2, 2025, after falling down a stairway at a hotel on Koh Samui, Thailand. The incident occurred in the Bo Phut area of the island, where the tourist had reportedly been consuming alcohol heavily in the days leading up to his death.

Local police from Bo Phut Station were alerted around 5:00 a.m. to the discovery of the man’s body at a hotel on Beach Road in Surat Thani province. The deceased, identified only as Mario, was found face-up on the concrete stairwell leading to his room on the third floor. His body showed head injuries near the left eyebrow, with no signs of foul play detected inside his room.

Security camera footage captured the man, appearing intoxicated, walking alone before the fatal fall. The video shows him attempting to climb the stairs before losing balance and striking his head on the floor.

The discovery was made by hotel staff who were assisting another guest with luggage when they noticed the man lying with visible head wounds. Emergency services were called immediately, but paramedics confirmed that the man had already died at the scene.

According to the hotel manager, the tourist had been seen drinking alcohol regularly during his stay, including on the night of the incident. An autopsy was carried out at Koh Samui Hospital, and the Austrian Embassy has been informed to notify the man’s relatives.
