The local Songkran festival began on April 12, 2023, with a ceremony presided over by Mr. Palakit Phuangwalaisin, Hua Hin district chief, as part of the Songkran Tradition Revival Project of the year 2566.
A large number of locals and tourists, including children and adults, came to participate in the religious ceremony of pouring water on the Buddha statue and to have fun playing Songkran water splashing with water guns at the Phranangklao Public Park in Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan.
Prior to the public opening of the water-splashing festival, students from various schools under the jurisdiction of Hua Hin Municipality participated in reviving the Songkran tradition of Hua Hin people in the past.
According to Mr. Nopporn Wutthikun, the Hua Hin Municipality organized the Songkran festival this year to revitalize the Songkran tradition.The event was held from April 12-13 at Hua Hin Beach and Phranangklao Public Park to promote and preserve Thai traditions, foster unity among the people of Hua Hin municipality, and promote tourism in the Hua Hin district, making it a well-known tourist destination.
Mr. Nopporn Wutthikun, Mayor of Hua Hin, attended the event, which was co-organized by city officials, the President of the Hua Hin-Cha Am Tourism Business Association, the Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and representatives from various organizations.
This year’s Songkran Festival in Hua Hin successfully revived and preserved the Songkran tradition, attracting both Thai and foreign tourists to join in the fun of water splashing and celebrating the festival, and strengthening the cultural identity of Hua Hin people.
