Thailand focuses on carbon neutral tourism

Date:

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) continues its commitment to developing the carbon-neutral tourism sector, in line with the Thai government’s green model that encourages more environmentally sustainable and responsible tourism.

Tourism Authority of Thailand Governor Yuthasak Supasorn said, <>

By using tourism resources in a sustainable manner to maximize benefits, TAT strives to improve capacity, and develop and expand carbon neutral tourism management in a way that is suitable for tourism operators, thereby creating a contribution to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

A strong focus is placed on transforming normal business tourism activities into low-carbon tourism activities, with the objective of achieving tourism that reduces environmental impact. Carbon credits can be provided for the impact created, as well as a source to absorb greenhouse gases, to reduce the total impact to zero.

TAT is promoting five pilot business units in three types of activities: communities, farm stays and smart farms, including:

Tham Suea Community in Phetchaburi Province, which supports carbon-free tourism;
Rimklong Homestay Community in Samut Songkhram province, which highlights slow and eco-friendly tourism in coconut plantations;
Rai Jai Yim Farm Stay, in Kanchanaburi province, which provides camping and farming activities;
Rai Khuean Rang Farm Stay in Nakhon Ratchasima province, centered on zero-carbon tourism and slow living experience in a mixed farm;
Thai Tawee Pomelo Garden in Nakhon Pathom province, a smart farm featuring educative farm life experiences in a pilot smart organic farm.
