Thailand Exceeds 2022 Tourism Goal with 11.15 Million Visitors

Date:

The amount exceeds the government’s expectations, according to statistics from the Ministry of Tourist and Sports, and represents a significant rebound for Thailand’s key tourism industry, which had been severely damaged by rigorous entrance and quarantine restrictions during the epidemic. There were 2.24 million international tourists in December alone, up from 230,497 the previous year.

Thailand experienced a record high of approximately 40 million foreign tourists in 2019 prior to the epidemic. Malaysia, India, and Singapore were the top three source markets for tourists last year.

Thailand hopes to recruit 25 million international visitors this year, with a goal of luring at least five million Chinese visitors. To help achieve this aim, the government has allocated 3.95 billion baht (120.72 million US dollars) to promote domestic and international tourism in secondary cities.

The reopening of China is likely to bolster Thailand’s key tourist sector, which amounted for around 12% of the country’s gross domestic product before the outbreak.
