A UN official applauds Thailand’s dedication to sustainability

Date:

During a visit to the Lopburi capital district on March 26, Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, the United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), praised Thailand’s Ministry of Interior for its efforts in promoting sustainable villages and “fashion sustainability.”

Alisjahbana and other UN delegates were greeted at a temple in Kong Tanu sub-district by Permanent Secretary for Interior Suttipong Juljarern, the president of the Ministry of Interior’s Women Association, and local authorities.

The tour included four weaving communities: Songkhla’s Mee Dee Natab group, Lamphun’s Ta Kien Pom group, Sakon Nakhon’s Donkoi Sustainable Village, and Chai Nat’s Nern Kham group.

Each village, according to Suttipong, symbolizes Thailand’s dedication to sustainability as part of Her Royal Highness Princess Sirivannavari Nariratana Rajakanya’s mission.

Alisjahbana concluded her tour by praising the Thai people for their “fashion sustainability” movement, which she established utilizing her knowledge and experience in fashion design to lead to breakthroughs in sustainable development as well as greater personal income for the villages.
