50 Conservation Swimmers in Koh Kham event to protect sea turtles and reduce waste disposal

Date:

A remarkable event occurred on March 30th, 2023, at Koh Kham, Samaesan, Sattahip, and Chonburi. Major Wasan Pirompho, Commander-in-Chief of Royal Thai Police 2, led a group of 50 conservation swimmers in an energizing lap swimming activity. Koh Kham, Rak Tao, Rak Thale, and Reduce Waste organized this event to raise awareness about sea turtle conservation and to protect the environment of the Thai seas. It was also a campaign to reduce waste disposal and the use of difficult-to-decompose plastic waste, both of which are harmful to aquatic animals, particularly sea turtles.

The event aimed to encourage participation in doing good deeds for social responsibility by assisting in garbage collection and beach cleaning at Koh Kham Underwater Park. It also aimed to combine tourism exercises with sports skills—swimming, notifying, or open water swimming (OWS)—and leisure activities in order to do good for society and build a sustainable community.

The working group hopes that activities like swimming around Koh Kham, protecting turtles, protecting the sea, and reducing waste will be an effective campaign to raise awareness and attention to marine environment care among everyone. The campaign also sought to discourage littering, particularly plastic waste, which endangers sea turtles and other sea creatures. The campaign is expected to result in beautiful Thai seas that will be passed down to future generations.

Lt. Manoch Pholyangsong, Managing Director of Deep Sea Commercial Diving Company Limited and President of the Conservation Swimmers Club, as well as the working group that organized the activities, made the event possible. They also thank the Royal Thai Navy Region 1 for allowing access to the Koh Kham area, as well as everyone who took part in the activities. This campaign represents an important step toward creating a more sustainable environment and protecting marine life.
